Altamont is pleased to welcome two new cooperative education, or co-op, students for the Spring 2016 semester. Jo’Darius Twillie (right) and Jackson Bogach are Engineering students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville participating in its Co-op Engineering Program. Their first terms with Altamont extend from January into May 2016.

Co-op employees are employed full time at Altamont for two or three semesters, which typically rotate between a semester at work and a semester at school. Altamont also currently works with the University of Georgia College of Engineering’s Cooperative Experiential Learning Program.

“We are pleased to support and participate in university co-op programs,” says Chris Gilbert, P.E., vice president of Altamont. “Such programs help students combine practical work experience with their classroom-based education. The students receive academic credit, and often they gain increased clarity about what area of work they wish to pursue professionally.

“I was a co-op student while in school myself, and the lessons I learned still help me each day.”

Jackson and Jo’Darius began work on January 13. They each will work on projects across the company in Altamont’s broad range of services.

“We have found having co-op employees keeps us better plugged into what university programs are teaching currently,” Gilbert says. “These students bring great energy and enthusiasm to Altamont and, working with the staff here, they contribute excellent work.”

In late February, Elizabeth Crute, a former co-op employee from the University of Georgia who has now graduated, will be joining Altamont as permanent staff.
